Terry Ritson is the latest Barclay’s Unsung Hero nominated by Newcastle United Foundation.
Best known for his voluntary work with Gateshead Redheugh Boy’s Club, Terry has devoted his entire adult life to community football. Terry’s outstanding contribution meant he, and 25 others from the Club, were invited to Newcastle United v Crystal Palace, receiving a VIP match day experience.
This season, Barclays are saying thank you and rewarding those Unsung Heroes in football for their involvement in community football.
As the main driving force behind the development of the Redhuegh FC’s £2.7 million facility, Terry has made helped create a club at the heart of the community.
Speaking from the side of the pitch at St James’ Park, Terry explained his happiness in being nominated. He said:
“It’s fantastic for the club and great for the kids.”
“When I finished playing, I started coaching and just enjoyed it so much. The kids get their enjoyment from playing football and it makes them better people, and that is what’s important.”
