A Night to Remember Thursday 26th January 2012 seen the official opening of our clubhouse and changing facilities, by Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew. Present were all those who had played a part in building and constructing the project and those who are currently part of and have been part of the club over recent years. Some teams were training that night and players got to meet Alan Pardew and John Carver and also received some words of Wisdom from the two Newcastle first team men! At Long last...
After talks and plans had been ongoing for several years, we now have a building to call home. Eslington Pavillion is the New home of Gateshead Redheugh built on the former council building.
Friday 9th July was the date for the handover, where Sports Co-ordinator Terry Ritson was present in what was deemed a proud moment for the Boys Club. Although the interior isn’t completely finished with old photographs and memrobilia, there are many plans in place to showcase the History of the Club and more importantly, discussions have began in order to remember Mr.Redheugh himself. The club want to remember Evan Bryson and the other founders of the club in an appropriate way.
Hopefully the new building is the start of a new era, where the club is able to grow into a new community club, but built on the same discipline and rituals as has been ever present. With a strong and committed team in place, I’m sure Gateshead Redheugh 1957 will continue to grow and develop into the nucleus of the community.
Date announced for Handover
The Keys to the brand new 2.7million state of the art community facility are to be handed over Friday 9th December. After work started on the building in March this year and many months running the club from Portacabins, eventually the keys are due to be handed over. Despite creating great footballers in the last few years the club has been restricted off the field due to the constraints of being based in old inadequate buildings. The design for the new Academy integrates supported accommodation for young people aged between 16 and 25 who are at risk of becoming homeless as well as a new home for Gateshead Redheugh 1957 and sports facilities for local residents in Eslington Park. |
